Do more of what makes you happy.

What makes your heart happy?

"Happiness never goes out of style" - Lilly Pulitzer

There are many physical changes you can make to take strides toward living a more heart healthy life. But physical components like exercise and eating healthy are not the only important pieces of the puzzle. We're talking about the importance of having a happy heart as well.

It is easy to stick to routines based on expectations from ourselves and others. We often don't take the time to stop and ask ourselves if we are happy. Happiness can look like a variety of things, and can vary from person to person.

Happiness is often defined as a state of well-being and contentment. What's your definition of happiness? Have you ever took the time to think about it? To get you started with thinking about your own personal happiness, take a few moments to reflect on a few signs of happiness. This is of course not a comprehensive list, but offers a starting point for further reflection.

You don't sweat the small stuff and appreciate the little things. If you are taking the time to obsess over the small inconveniences or stressors in your life, this could be a sign that you are not at your best. Does missing the bus or spilling your coffee set you on a path of negativity for the rest of the day?

There is nothing keeping you up at night. If you don't often have trouble falling asleep at night, or spend part of the night tossing and turning, it is a sign that you are feeling content in your life.

Little things bring you joy. Do you find yourself reflecting on small positive things throughout your day? Taking the time to appreciate the small highs is a great sign that you are feeling happy in your life.

You pursue your passions. Figuring out what drives you in life is integral for overall wellness and happiness. Once you have this figured out, a sign of your happiness is whether you or not you take action to pursue these goals.

You have healthy relationships in your life. When looking into signs of happiness, this is a common one. Healthy relationships are also not only in reference to romantic relationships, but friendships and family relationships as well. Humans are social and we thrive off of connecting with others. Making sure you are taking the time to develop and nurture your relationships is a sign of happiness that you can look out for.

You celebrate the success of others. Being able to celebrate when someone has achieved a goal or gotten ahead in their life is another sign of happiness. If others' achievements tend to bring you down, this is a sign that you are not feeling joy or contentment in your own life.

When you become stressed, you have the ability to calm yourself down. Another important sign of happiness is your ability to cope with setbacks and hard times. Life is full of both highs and lows, and knowing and using the strategies that work with you, show your ability to deal with stressful times.

You want to share in your happiness with others. Do you feel as if you want to spread positivity around? Maybe you catch yourself conducting random acts of kindness, or you love to hand out compliments. A sign that you are feeling happy and content in your own life, is your likeliness to spread happiness and positivity around.

Did any of these signs of happiness resonate with you? Did they inspire any actions in your own life? We hope they got you thinking about your own definition of happiness and perhaps several ways to improve your level of happiness. Sometimes a quick reminder that physical health is important, but not the only component to overall health, is needed. Emotional and Mental Health are also important components to living a happy life.
